This Institute coordinates research in the field of health technologies. These refer to all technological developments that are essential to biomedical progress, in both fundamental (observing and understanding mechanisms of the living body) and clinical terms (transferring knowledge to therapeutic solutions).

Four main areas are concerned: imaging, development of drugs, biotechnology and bioengineering, surgery and other interventional techniques. Moreover, the Institute endeavors to help researchers to promote their work, from proving the concept to industrial application.
