Partners

Inserm has been developing a partnership policy for a long time now with the management of institutions, health authorities and public or private decision-makers as well as society.

Universities

Inserm organizes its activity around research units, created for a mandate of 4 years, and can be renewed once; 80% of them are located within university-hospital sites. In 2008, Inserm was a partner with 47 higher education and research establishments including 39 universities.

Foundations and associations

Charitable foundations and associations are precious partners for Inserm; they want to develop a strategy to support research, based on requests for proposals or the granting of awards for the recognition of excellence in the work of scientists and to which our laboratories respond. Programs at Inserm are elaborated within the framework of close partnerships with associations and foundations, such as the Avenir program.

Hospitals and cancer research centers

Inserm is closely tied to hospitals in that most of its research structures (80%) are located within the perimeter of the university-hospital sites (University-Hospital Centers, Cancer research centers (CLCC), medical, pharmacy or odontology schools, sites of the EFS (French establishment for blood)). More than 2,000 university-hospital personnel work in Inserm research structures and over 40% of the Inserm structures are managed by University Professor-Hospital Practitioners.

Health agencies

The partnership between Inserm and health agencies is manifested by different joint efforts such as seminars or colloquiums, operations that support the development of research through calls for tender, or through elaborating wide-reaching operations. These efforts, which are often jointly financed, bring out new themes in research by combining Inserm's biomedical skills with complementary skills such as demography or the social sciences.

Research bodies

The partnership between Inserm and certain other research bodies is manifested in particular by the creation of mixed research groups. A mixed research structure is set up using shared scientific objectives.

Social protection bodies

The partnership between Inserm and the social protection bodies pursues two objectives: provide scientific support in monitoring and improving the health condition of the population, and developing and enhancing the knowledge and methodologies pertaining to optimizing the management of care and prevention systems. This is manifested in various ways: setting up collective expertise, financing specific research, bibliographical assessments.

Local and regional governments

Inserm enjoys privileged relationships with the regions, but also with municipalities and the general councils. These relations are manifested by framework agreements for regional cooperation which set down the partnership axes that Inserm and a region want to develop together.

Europe

Inserm is a member of the Association Science Europe that unites 51 European research institutions (Research Funding Organizations - RFOs and Research Performing Organizations RPOs).
André Syrota, Chairman and CEO of Inserm, fulfills the role of the vice-president of Science Europe for the RPOs.
Science Europe was created in October 2011 and has for purpose to defend the interests of European research institutions.
