The 2015 Opecst-Inserm Prize is awarded to José-Alain Sahel for his pioneering work in the area of artificial retina research and regenerative eye treatments.

For José-Alain Sahel, “Commercialisation is a necessary step in bringing innovations to the patient. It is a tool and not a goal.” Founder and Director of The Vision Institute,* the ophthalmologist has cofounded several start-up companies to allow the development of innovative therapeutic approaches (gene therapy, artificial retina) aimed at enabling blind people to regain sensitivity to light.
